Phlomp
Hey ladies and dapper gentlemen! Β I’m back, and … wait, these monsters look familiar.
Some thing to announce. Β I’m sorry that things have been a little unsteady here, and I will be streaming again to help stabilize things, so please stop by to say hi π
FUCKING YEAH!
YAY!
Did that link just…. well thanks a lot Monty. Or should I say *dons monocle* Monty’s son! *dun dun dun*
Did…did Monty just evolve?
I would definitely choose him as my starter pokemon! π
Now I have the pokemon evolution theme stuck in my head when I look at the comic. Well played, good sir.
What the…?
So, is this like what happened to Taryn’s monster?
I thought something looked off on Monty’s eyes in the last panel. So can we expect them to stay this way?
Everyone in this universe has terrific facial hair. I can only wish for my non-existent stubble to be half as amazing as what lies before me.
Called it, CALLED IT.
It’s a pokemon…?
ummm…what?
Holy Frankenfuck, you sir, Flaming Dragon of Greatness. Thanks for updating, really looking forward the next update (and by really I mean REALLY).
I… I want to program a game now, set in the nerf-this universe, with monsters that evolve.
Wait a second…
There were those early strips with the pokemon tournament… so Pokemans exist within the continuity of Nerf-This…
So Monty is a real pokemans!!
So because I’m a lady I don’t get to be dapper? That makes me sad… Also, thanks for the update!
Sir I wish that I could meet you so I could learn your dapper ways! XD
Also, thank you for the update! I have been sad without them
Cheer up ol’ chap, for your son is now a monster turd. Hurrah!
Glad to see you back. Definitely one of my favorite webcomics to read. Always well worth the wait.
The promise of infanticide and a feral scuffle was too much for this seasoned brawler to ignore. So with bristled jowls and compounded eyes, he returned to the plane of mortals to partake in a glorious combat!
Huh…. I guess monty hit puberty. I mean check out that bitchin ‘stache.
MONTY! π
…and something along the lines of “I guess the dad got his wish”
Well It was the obvious connection there that Monty was one of the cool monsters. I am just hoping he is not THE monster as tragedy would be too much !
I….buh…waii….whaa..
My brain hurts. I don’t even understand.
Shaggy, it was always his intention for the 3 worlds to be mixed. Pretty sure he mentioned it several times through the comics.
Yes…but…Monty tiny…and…huge! Dead! Not dead?
Congratulations! your Monty evolved into “THEF*CKISTHIS!”
A dapper monster actually. From Motokool. I’m gonna die.
There is no monster that looks exactly like that in Motokool. I don’t think Motokool is developed enough to even suggest there are dapper monsters in it yet.
It’s a mocking monster, right? I read Motokool again and I saw nothing about dapper monsters, but much about monsters and mocking monsters in particular.
Woah, this is the longest conversation thread I’ve ever seen in this website! I didn’t actually bother to read that long monster of a thingie, but my two cents are still valid!
Person A, you are clearly wrong, but don’t act like such an ass about it Person B.
Now then, carry onβ¦
http://motokool.net/choice-battle-cry/ … Well, the hell is this, then?
Notice the mocking monster has human arms and legs. I see the similarity but I feel like the limbs are too significant of a difference to say it’s the same.
Because that’s totally the biggest difference, along with the ‘theory’-cum-fact that Scott alluded to all three stories taking place in the same universe, and not at the same time…
To be more clear on it, Destiny did mention having killed most of his kind (leading to the current conflict between her and Chase), which leads one to figure ‘how did she miss Monty,’ at which point one remembers he’s been with Nergil for (x) out of the (x) years Nergil’s been cursed, with no mention of where Monty was or came from before that time.
That said, allegedly it’s been decades to centuries since ‘now’ in Motokool, where monsters like that are everywhere (and the company was founded by the first/last human king, who believed humans and monsters could work together). Now, given how long it allegedly took Monty to grow from his previous form, who’s to say he wouldn’t eventually get more human arms and legs? Too significant of a difference, you say? That’s closer to being the /only/ difference, aside from the ability to copy words and wear monocles.
Please, there’s no need to get so worked up and preachy about this. I have not read every comment Scott has ever written and may have missed comments about “same-universe”.
Scott is no stranger to anachronisms but Motokool hardly seems set in the distant past. The main character of Motokool is wearing a modern jacket and sneakers http://motokool.net/007/ http://motokool.net/0010-motokool/ This room has an electrical outlet along the bottom of the wall http://motokool.net/a-little-blood/ It also makes no sense that Nerf This would take place in a seemingly normal modern day where people are surprised at seeing a monster and nobody remembers the “first and only human king” who apparently united the humans and monsters for a time. On the other hand, nobody ever talks about wizards either.
*scratches head*
I could have sworn I stated that clearly.
“It’s been decades to hundreds of years since ‘now’ (Nerf-This) in Motokool.”
What I was saying about Nergil was that he’s had Monty for who-knows how many years since he’s been cursed, but it hasn’t been said how long Monty was around before Nergil got ahold of him. Which had to be clarified because of (and I’ll requote) “How did Destiny miss Monty when she was going about killing off the rest of his kind?” And you don’t have to read every comment by Scott, it’s been brought up in the comment section by people other than Scott every now and again how what theory fits into the timeline.
There, does that make more sense? Not meaning to come off as ‘preachy’ but it does get annoying to see a comment attempt to disprove something that’s already been stated nigh-clearly.
So I’m supposed to ignore that the guy is wearing modern sneakers and the presence of electrical outlets in Motokool because you said it’s set in the past? I provide evidence of my perspective and you just make a claim with no support. Where does your authority come from? Care to link to wherever it is established that Motokool is set in the past? You may be right, but it’s certainly not obvious in the comic.
… How? How did you, once again, read that /wrong/?
Let me try this in all-caps.
MOTOKOOL. IS SET. DECADES TO HUNDREDS OF YEARS. IN THE FUTURE. FROM THE CURRENT TIME. IN NERF-THIS.
How you keep mistaking “since (which is just as good a substitute for ‘from’ [denoting time moving AWAY from a set point in time {WHICH I CLARIFIED TO BE THE CURRENT TIMELINE OF NERF-THIS}]) for before (which is the only way I would have bothered to write the phrase you’re stating I did)”, I have no clue.
For clarity, I’m saying Motokool is decades to centuries in the future of Nerf-This, likely closer to decades, but repeating ‘centuries’ since I said it in previous comments. But perhaps the needless part of this sentence confused you, so let me punctuate this for emphasis.
IN THE FUTURE! OF! NERF-THIS!
Now, do pardon me if I came off as preachy, but once again, it does so enrage me to see a comment try to twist words around to a point that is difficult for one reading in a logical fashion to comprehend.
TL;DR – Please, do tell me you were trying to troll. It would really be a sad thing for the state of your mental faculties if you were not.
You have some serious anger issues, don’t you?
Yes, your sentence was structured poorly enough I misunderstood what you meant. You could have said “Motokool is set hundreds of years after Nerf This”.
You also continue to make a claim with no source. Care to provide a link?
Well, would you look at that, you’ve made me go and say something with confidence something I wanted to say was “in theory.” Congrats you bilgerat, you’ve gone and irritated me to the point of spontaneously openly supporting an opinion. WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO COUGH UP A LUNG FOR YOU TOO?
http://motokool.net/historical-platter-3/
Now, if you’ll look at exhibit (A) -*SEPARATE BUT RELATED NOTE* in its entirety, you fool, not just the singular post. That is to say, the pages before and after the subject matter- *BACK TO THE EXAMPLE*, you’ll see that there was once a human king who founded the company Jarvis is applying for. Posted January 18, 2011.
http://nerf-this.com/dream-adventure/
In exhibit (B) -*SEPARATE BUT RELATED NOTE* which should be ‘exhibit A’ since it is noted to have come first in the production line, but won’t for the sake of making you go through mental acrobatics to understand it, even though it is in essence QUITE simple – *BACK TO THE EXAMPLE*, you’ll see quite a similar character design, yes to Jarvis, but also to the ‘someone’ in the painting. You say it’s coincidence and anachronism; I say there’s most certainly a reason beyond that.
Now, do try to remain consistent in you disproving of a theory. First it’s “highly improbably” because it’s “most certainly not set in the past” when I never said such a thing (do try to explain, how in my sentence structure you thought that was what I was saying. Do try.), now it’s “improbable” because you think I have no source, when the “source” is in the very webcomics you claim to be reading.
Of course, on the offchance that debates like this have put Scott off of the thing, congratulations, you had an effect on a project you are not reportedly a part of. More than some can say about subjects such as this.
And let me reiterate, I truly and wholly have an intense dislike for people that you that try and twist peoples words around to the point that they don’t make logical sense to you, and then you try and decipher a hidden meaning in something that wasn’t even coded to begin with.
DECADES TO CENTURIES SINCE “NOW” =/= DECADES TO CENTURIES BEFORE “NOW”
“NOW” CLARIFIED TO BE THE CURRENT TIMELINE IN “NERF-THIS”
NERF-THIS ONCE-MORE CONFIRMED TO BE THE ‘CURRENT’ TIMELINE
“Why didn’t you just say ‘it takes place after’?” I did. I /so/ did.
Wow, this was certainly not a topic worth pouring so much effort and rage into. I am not nearly as emotionally invested in this discussion as you are.
Certainly, you may pepper your discourse with verbiage so clumsily worded as to defy comprehension, then assume the air of the intellectual, drooling condescension and imagined superiority. But in the end all you’re doing is throwing a tantrum over theories in a conversation I barely care about.
*Ahem*
Do I care whether or not you are “nearly,” “more,” or “not at all” as invested in this discussion as I am? I do not, but obviously you feel the need to point it out, which by proxy leads one to believe that you’re trying to disconnect yourself from the situation, having been disproven on all points that you attempted to argue… and failed to back up.
Certainly I could, but at no point did I /claim/ to be an intellectual, now, did I? I simply stated a point as *cough cough* “simply” as I could, with you failing to comprehend my simplicity. By all means, I am quite the idiot, I just know how to use and comprehend a number of words that the average ‘idiot’ would not be expected to know, let alone properly utilize.
And to clarify, my ‘tantrum’ was not even over the theory itself, but your continued refusal to acknowledge that you’re a failure of a “Know-It-All” fish in a barrel. There are plenty of you where you came from, feel free to return to your brethren in shame, knowing you could never fit into the sea you’re trying to swim in.
Ta, now.
Look, pipsqueak. You write too much. Your verbose discourse reeks of self-importance. In your attempts to demonstrate mental and verbal dexterity, you bastardize sentences and inhibit comprehension. One scarcely sees necessity of digesting your pseudo-eloquent blathering. Furthermore, your hostility and faux-superiority bred distaste and precluded a mutual communique even at the outset of this conversation. Where I may have appeared to exhibit a failure in comprehension or a malevolent intent on twisting your words, I in fact was not putting forth the effort to read your verbiage carefully. To put it succinctly – I’ve been skimming what you wrote. All I wanted to know from the beginning was whether Scott had explicitly stated any connection between the three comics.
You are far too invested in this comment-section conversation you see as a glorious exhibition of your own intellect. This is hardly the place to assert superiority over your brethren. This is not a scholarly debate or a political duel. I have things to do outside of the Nerf This comments and I will waste no more time as a target for your inane babble.
“I’ve been skimming what you wrote.”
That, and the fact that you bothered to reply /yet once more/ at my behest, just prove my point. If you want a goddamn explanation, read the entirety instead of nitpicking.
Oh, and by the way? You nitpicked again. I already said I’m an idiot. You, meanwhile and /by your own admission/, just proved yourself to be the bigger one in this simulation. Neat, isn’t it, how the moment I’m not obviously enraged, you suddenly are fed up with this call-and-response.
Obviously, you are no ‘brethren’ of mine.
*handwave* Goodbye now~ goodbye, and make sure you have everything you came here with before you go~
Kevin, you are wrong here. While Demonlogan was being pretty harsh,
you seem to be incredibly lost in his statements. It’s pretty easy for
someone to think you are trolling them when they phrase something so
clearly and you get the exact opposite meaning from their statement, you
know? Just saying, Demonlogan did phrase it pretty clearly, so he
probably thinks you’re a trolling jerk who wasted his time. I think you
just misunderstood what was being said.
But by all means, do continue this. It’s been a while since I’ve had someone to rip into to the point where they try to flee claiming “I’m too good for this.”
Please. Do go on.
If I’m wrong, fie on it. Joke well-done and laughs around. But if that’s the main difference you can come up with, fie on that.
It could also be joking reference to the fact that characters in his different comics tend to look pretty similar (e.g. here http://motokool.net/new-hire/ protagonist has clearly turned into Chase). I think the similar-looking characters came about from lack of artistic maturity (which no longer applies, of course – Scott’s art is ridiculous now) but it could possibly play into a parallel-worlds connection or something.
he got big…
Phlomp…
The onomatopoeias in this comic always make me giggle π
Glad to see you’re back, hope everything is well!
Oh My. This is a twist.
Nice hinting, with the previous image.
I wasn’t even aware that other comic existed :T must read all of it!
That was actually how I found the this comic and Scout Crossing. I got hooked on Motokool and couldn’t stop where it had ended.
Wear condoms.
OMG, what did you do to poor, adorable little Monty! Now he’s a hideous thingie and not at all cuddle-sized!
That’s Some dang strong hope there!
