I have never before wanted to strike all holy vengeance into a child, but so help me if that little booger-eater so much as lays a fingernail on Monty I will reap what the Dark One has planted from all those eons back, bake it into a pie of evil, and stuff it down that little bastard’s throat.
Or I’ll yell at my computer screen. That might work too.
I agree, was expecting more with the fight between chase/destiny. Guess it’s time to forget about this comic for another year or two and see if anything advances in that time with this and Scout (What’s Motokool again?)
Hey, not to be a giant bag of dicks or anything, but remember last time updates stopped for sackloads of time without even the most basic form of communication or dinosaur-themed ransom demands?
Mr. Ferguson, being a twisted creative genius, comic engineer, and generally outstanding does not give one license to neglect the people that support…one.
A simple “hey assbutts I’m busy, gonna be a while.” would be just fine…something to think about.
Prefacing something with “Hey, not to be a giant bag of dicks” does not make one NOT a giant bag of dicks. Sit back. Shut up. Wait for an update. Do you pay his bills? No? He does this comic for free. Shhhhhhhhh…. Trollop.
First and foremost, my initial statement regarding any likeness I share with a bag of dicks was simply a statement of intent. I meant that I was not deliberately setting out to be a bag of dicks with my previous post. That is all. You sir, are of course welcome to make any judgement you want, from the extremely limited contact you’ve had with the person that is me. Clearly you have made your judgement, I salute you and your fluid ability define and label your environment, good job.
And now to address the “meat” of the rotting carcass that was your response to my initial comment:
I am currently looking at advertisements for Syfy (on Dish network), Experian, and a bunch of other webcomics on this page. We all come to this site, give it hits, see the ads, occasionally click on them, and maybe even purchase a snazzy t-shirt with a big mustache or a cigarette smoking chicken on it. My point, dear Fattimus, is that we may not pay Mr. Ferguson directly, but he makes money off our time on his site and off our commitment to his products. And sometimes we DO pay Mr. Ferguson directly (money that may in fact go to his bills). He does not do this for free. This is a job, and as with any job, disappearing for lengths of time without any attempted communication does not bode well for customer retention.
I did not criticize his work, his life, or his update schedule. I merely criticized his inconsistent ability to communicate his absences with his customers.
Enjoy the rest of your day Faittimus, I’m sure you’re already off beating puppies or bathing in the blood of small children. (I also enjoy making snap-judgments about people based on some words on a page)
I truly have enjoyed our time together,
plaguemonkey
Terribly sorry my reply is coming so much later, but I had to run off to work. I have since read your response and I must say I love puppies. I would never beat a puppy. Bathing in the blood of small children on the other hand I have no qualms with. How else am I supposed to stay youthful and vibrant looking?
Now, in response to my snap judgement. If you travel back to the archives you’ll notice that lovely little period we all experienced with a straight 2 months of no updates. A truly bleak time for everyone. Peruse the comments and you’ll see several butt-hurt people begin a tirade in a way “vaguely” similar to yours. This annoyed me greatly at the time. Master Ferguson is every bit the character you described and to see someone (as I perceived it) passive aggressively belittle such a magnificent chap sent me into a veritable tizzy. Also, to be perfectly honest I was hoping for the response from you to be as excellent as it in fact was.
Good evening, Sir(I assume only because plaugemonkey sounds more like something a male would use as a handle).
No worries my good man. We all have our responsibilities. Firstly I would like to apologize for suggesting you beat puppies, It was out of line. Puppies are sacred, as I’m sure you agree. Kudos on the blood baths, may I suggest Avon’s new product, “Baby’s Bone-Marrow Lather” in leu of the blood of children….it does wonders for the crows feet.
I would like to say that I in no way meant to initiate any form of tirade with my initial comment. It was simply a slightly dickish recommendation on the implementation of future practices that may benefit all who have any personal investment in Mr. Ferguson’s work. I will admit that I can get a bit snarky at times, but as I previously mentioned, no part of my statement in any way attacked Mr. Ferguson’s methods, material, or vast compliment of skills. I did however suggest that he could improve his communication. And I stand by that statement. It does at times need work.
A point of clarification. I do not passively aggress towards anyone. I only aggress, there is nothing passive about it. I still assert that my initial comment did neither. It was not meant to be aggressive, or belittling in any fashion. I did however mean to bathe my comment in smart-assery/asshole-ishness, as it is my primary means of communication. But it was meant to come across as less butt-hurt, and more “playful shenaniganesque.” If it accomplished anything other than that, I am sorry.
I’m sure that lather would be much easier to use as well, what with not having to clean my bath tub after every dousing. I suppose I’ll have to find a manufactures coupon.
I also have enjoyed the dialogue. Mayhap we’ll meet again on this or some other dapper comic. Pleasant evening Sir.
Maybe his Pc is busted and he cant get online to post or is not able to due nto plans or a computer virus. It was his choice to make these comics and he should not feel obligated to post all the time.
As much as I enjoy this comic, and it’s easily in my top three, I don’t think anyone has a right to demand (or expect, for that matter) that the author make updates on any schedule but their own. Scott has, what…three comics and a GAME all in the works? I know the last thing I would need is a “fan” breathing down my neck and complaining about how things aren’t being kept up with the way they think they should be. Can’t rush art.
No one is entitled to anything, IMHO, whether or not small sums of money are made from ads.
As is pointed out every time this comes up, most people aren’t complaining because he hasn’t updated the comic. Most people complain because he disappears with no warning and we don’t know when or even if to expect him back. It would take all of 2 minutes for him to post something saying “Hey stuff came up so the next update will take a while” yet he never does that
And my point stands even then. No one is entitled to an explanation, nor is Scott obligated to say if/when he will return to post. He is an artist, and he is “publishing” these for fun. As much as we all like him and his comics, the fan is never the artists responsibility. The ART is.
Communication is nice, but it is a courtesy-not a requirement.
True but it is the kind of courtesy you should really have if you want people to keep supporting what you do. If he keeps doing this kind of stuff, there will be people who just give up on him altogether and stop reading the comic, and it is possible he will loose revenue from that
So essentially all of these arguments boil down to, “Yes you should expect updates from someone who provides entertainment and takes a small amount of revenue from it, but don’t expect updates because you don’t pay his bills.”
Realistically its a shit business plan, both long and short term. Whether he has other business ideas he wishes to branch into, but rather his lack of communication with his “customers”.
His name is still attached to all three comics. A name that is progressively becoming akin to “I don’t particularly give a shit, I’ll do it when I feel like it”. Of course this is acceptable and expected when someone isn’t making money from it, but when you use your reputation from it to create a faith in your other projects, its extremely foolish.
Yes Scott is a decent artist and a talented spinner of yarn. However realistically if any of your favourite writers, artists etc “abandoned” an enjoyable piece of work part way through with no excuses or communication for long periods to focus on other projects, you would all think exactly the same.
if you are from america or other country’s that don’t often use twat. it means something i don’t know what but my guess a woman’s under carriage. its not that strong of a insult, i call the best of my friends a dick when he deserves it but it doesn’t really matter it being a insult but it does mean. that he needs to at least tell us whats going on or something like hey cant do this anymore its been weeks? now right?
Yeah, It’d be like if George Martin or Patrick Rothfuss took a long time to publish sequels. That you didn’t have to pay for. Which, by the way, is only actual issue we, as readers, should be discussing. The amount of money the creator does or doesn’t receive certainly doesn’t come from our pockets. If advertisers continue to supply the creator with some compensation based on his site’s traffic, that is between him and them, not any of us (unless someone here is him, a representative of the ads on this site, or directly involved in the financial dealings therein). You aren’t his fiscal adviser, and it is rude to give unsolicited public advice. It doesn’t make you seem intelligent or providential, it gives you the appearance of arrogance and condescension. As to the content of your comment, if you believe this creator started, or continues, this webcomic for something other than the love of creation married to the courage for public display, then you are wrong. Art and storytelling is not a business, it is a rarely profitable passion.
Oi, lay off mate. Been followin this comic since he was in the “all these pages seem fucking random” stage of development. He has periods where he just disappears. Yea, it’s shitty that he doesn’t warn us, but it’s not done out of spite. The last time he did this he was gone for MONTHS, and it’s because some really screwy shit happened in his life. Believe me, it’s worth the wait, and I’ll stand by faithfully until he comes back. Have some faith.
I read the arguments below, and I have nothing further to contribute, but I still get frustrated when I check back here every day and there’s nothin’. I need my fix!!!
Hey i think one thing about this whole situtation sure it would be great if we had information about whats going on but Master Ferg is a great artist he has real life problems to deal with but when we his followers demand shit it makes him less interested in doing comics and all of you crying for more free comics and dont help to pay his real life expenses doesnt give us the right to whine anyone that does is a whimp face it boys and girls we have no control over what happens and shit happens in real life so one thing i have to say is grow the fuck up you dont pay the bills you just demand bunch of losers thats what you are after all you seem to forget he lost a close person and you all bitch and whine and demand that we get updates so grow the fuck up you pathetic windbags
As much as he has the right to ignore and neglect us, we have the right to bitch and complain if we want to. It may not be significant, but he does make some revenue from the people visiting the site. He has a facebook, twitter, and webpage all dedicated to this comic. It would take him all of 60 seconds to let us know what’s up through any of these channels. Some of us may be concerned about his personal well-being. While he may not owe us anything he really shouldn’t alienate a bunch of people that take the time each day to check and see if he’s commented at all. What about the people that did give him money for the book that he took forever to deliver if he ever did at all? The people here are just venting the frustration that comes with uncertainty. If he does wind up dead I’m sure they’ll all feel pretty bad.
Oh, he never sent out the books. I gave him $40, never even got an apology. And yet, I still check the comic, still want to support his stuff. Guess I liked the comic enough.
What some people don’t seem to get, is that for some of us, who’ve been reading for a long while, who attempted to help him get published, these random absences can really feel like a massive shove-off. I saw a lot of people saying that he doesn’t get paid for this, well…I paid him and I didn’t even get what I paid for (yeah, it wasn’t a massive sum of money in the long run, but for a college student $40 is a LOT). And there are probably hundreds of other people who were put through the same thing by him. And many of us stayed loyal while we were being ripped off.
I’m not doubting he’s going through some stuff, but, uh–there are plenty of ways to get a message out. He doesn’t even have to be the one to send it (which, you know, if he were incapacitated would have to be the way regardless). But instead, he’s decided that the fans of his comic are not worth the effort. And that’s what it really comes down to.
They’re not frustrated about uncertainty, they’re upset that this guy, who’s seemingly worked so hard for their devotion, would just up and leave and not say a peep.
I can testify that he never sent out the books. $25 down the tubes (even if he did ship the book, my address has changed and I won’t receive it), but I still check this comic.
His work is excellent, art and story.
I just don’t like the fact that he’s not saying anything to us.
By the by, IndieGOGO has told me several times that he is bound by contract to deliver the product or return the money, and I could take him to court. Uh… thanks for having my back IndieGOGO. The $25 I spent is not worth squabbling over in court, not even in principle.
I just wanted this guy’s art because I thought it was worth my time. I’m disappointed.
All in all, I wish him good health. I hope he has not suffered any further loss in friends and family, and I will continue to check for updates.
Brilliant business model… write addicting story, don’t specify update schedule, do no work, collect same advert revenue as you would busting your ass to meet deadlines
I’ve been doing a comic for about 3 years, myself. Right now, I’m in a very slow period, mostly because I’ve been in and out of the hospital since May, and have no damn energy or stamina to speak of. Doing a comic is WORK, young sprouts, and when one does not have the energy to hold a tablet up and read ebooks, but instead listens to podcasts and audiobooks because you can *lay the tablet down*, that’s a good example of drained to nothing.
When I recover my energy and creative spirit, I’ll be working on my comic again. I’m sure the good dapper Ferg will return when he has replenished his creative forces, possibly by sucking out the life essences of GALLONS of hussies.
So chill thyselves, wee ones, stop crying that you aren’t getting free stuff. Or go live in an Occupy camp, then you can cry about not getting free stuff as much as you want.
You know what, I think I will stop bothering with this and stick to comics that actually have update schedules that they stick to and follow, like gunnerkrigg court.
He has 4 comics he is working on (nerf-this, dapper finery, scouts crossing, and motokool) and a card game he is illustrating. His work is brilliant. Real life gets us at the most inopportune times and it sucks. The man has to make a living and keep his health in check. If you can’t have patience and wait for him, then find something else to do instead of making the man feel guilty for having a life. I’ve had to wait months, even sometimes a year for the next installment of some of my favorite comics (not this one, another one I love) and I stuck by faithfully and was greatly rewarded with laughs and brilliant story lines. Have faith in the man. I do. Be kind and rewind….. Your attitudes….
Yes! Scout Crossing Updated! That means that nerf this is coming back! So chill out all of you complainers. His work, to me at least, is always worth the wait
NOOOOOOOOOOO,
A friend introduced me to this a few days ago and i;ve finally gotten through all of the backlog.
Now i have to wait for updates like a normal person QQ
(But seriously, i understand that’s it’s not exactly the easiest thing in the world keeping regular updates. especially when you do as much as you do. I’m loving the comic, please keep up the good work and all my best regards to each and every one of your endeavors)
All these people saying we aren’t owed an explanation, I follow at least four free online comics at any given time. Each of the authors occasionally take breaks from their work for personal or professional reasons. This guy is the only one who regularly fails to provide a reason and a timeline for his absence. It seems to be industry standard that you update your fans on why you’re leaving and at the very least when you’ll be back. Maybe the author should announce a long-term hiatus of one or more of his projects if he has so much going on. A gig as an illustrator for a game and three separate comics is a very large load. The discipline to put a project on hold until it can be given his full attention would serve him well. It’s unfair to drag fans along like he does. If this sort of thing continues, I’ll be taking my web traffic elsewhere.
Only four?
Pfft.
Fucking casual.
I’m following 27. And I promise, Scotticus shall never lose my traffic. I mean, it takes me less than a minute to check this comic every day. Not really that big of a loss.
Hey, to anyone wondering about updates, on his newest scout crossing post he said that he’ll be updating nerf sometime in the next week. So the wait is almost over.
I hope you are doing okay, “Good” Sir Scott. Your fan base is worried about you and your well being and/ or any loved ones. (If anyone cares to remember the last time he had to hiatus was because a loved one was very unwell.) I await an update with a happy heart to know I can re-read everything while I’m waiting.
Remember children: Life gets in the way of living sometimes. There may be things you want to do but are unable to due to other life events.
Hamsters need water to survive? …oops.
OMG. MONTY IS STILL BREATHING
His tiny painful shivers are so sad. :C
he’s fine. probably just planning his next threesome with the sock sisters.
I think those are Rage Shivers.
So…..wheres the Nergil wallpaper?
i want that kids tshirt…. just sayin.
i would totally buy that shirt
Stylish Bacon & Bitches T-shirt tucked belly button high and carrying a picture of a dead hamster? Kid’s phone must be INFESTED with hussy digits
gallons of hussy digits
Must get his raw male magnetism from his father
Do plans entail Monty eating him? 😀
GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM MONTY! YOUR LIFE WILL DEPEND UPON IT!
Forgive me for saying but … this has been so drawn out :<
I agree, I want to see what happens with monty, or with chase/destiny.
I agree, was expecting more with the fight between chase/destiny. Guess it’s time to forget about this comic for another year or two and see if anything advances in that time with this and Scout (What’s Motokool again?)
*sniffle*
“I will make a wallpaper of Nergil next post for those who asked… I’d be filled with tomfoolery if I didn’t”
I hope your plans for this haven’t changed.
*sniffle*
I came here for Destiny and Chase destroying each other ;-; instead I get fat kids messing with dying Monty ;c
WHERE’S THE DELICIOUS VIOLENCE?
if predictions are correct, they are cooooomiiiiiiiiiiiiinnng~
He’s like a fat kid version of Chase. Even has the hairstyle and neglectful father! 😀
Monty is still alive!!!!!
The link for your store…doesn’t go to a store… D:
Oh no. I see this going in a very bad direction. Like the movie Ted.
NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LITTLE KID RUN AWAY
Look at that kids hair. He’s totally gonna be Templeton.
IT HAS BEEN FORETOLD!!!!
Y U NO GIVE US NERGIL FUCK OFF RAINBOW WALLPAPER?!?! ;(
Is the pudgy kid gonna be Monty’s revival snack?
There must be a SNACKRIFICE!
haha I love this kid xD but Y U NO UPDATE MORE OFTEN?!?! 🙁 I really love this story so far and your art is phenomenal, I want more of it!!!
I think scott may have died from an overload on beef jerky and coffee.
And hussies. You can’t forget the hussies.
Nah, he’s just gone back into hibernation mode. Those hussies really fill him up ya know.
I check back every coupla weeks, he’ll be back I’m sure.
I check back in everyday ;-;
As do I.
its ok man yout all going to be okay

TL:DR Can you give me the CliffsNotes version?
No. I didn’t write that for you, but for my own satisfaction, whether or not you read it is of no concern to me.

Thank you Mr. McCallen. You summed up what I wanted to say in a most brilliant and easy to understand way. Kudos to you.
You’re welcome. And it’s “Ms.”, if you would be so kind.
Apologies, I shall rectify that mistake at once madame.
You know what, I think I will stop bothering with this and stick to comics that actually have update schedules that they stick to and follow, like gunnerkrigg court.
Toodles. Oh, by the by, he just updated Scout Crossing.
His work, to me at least, is always worth the wait
how long are you going to make me wait for a bacon and bitches t shirt?
NOOOOOOOOOOO,
A friend introduced me to this a few days ago and i;ve finally gotten through all of the backlog.
Now i have to wait for updates like a normal person QQ
(But seriously, i understand that’s it’s not exactly the easiest thing in the world keeping regular updates. especially when you do as much as you do. I’m loving the comic, please keep up the good work and all my best regards to each and every one of your endeavors)
Just gonna be very patient for a update. But I want a update!!! But being patient…..
Please write a new installment soon. You have me hooked!
patience… XC patience…itll update soon…patience T_T
Awww. poor thing.
Exactly. Set up a damned bookmark folder or string them along a bar. Click them in order. No update? Well mosey on down to the next one.
Curses! Two more than I! Now I must find 3 new ones to read to top that…
Hey, to anyone wondering about updates, on his newest scout crossing post he said that he’ll be updating nerf sometime in the next week. So the wait is almost over.
On facebook he said Monday, so I wouldn’t get your hopes up too far.
