So, Taryn’s mother was probably an amazon that Mr. Mills happened to impress by being a worthy rival in combat, whom he encountered on one of his many adventures. Or at least a reasonable facsimile of the aforementioned.

  dude there should already be fires…have you seen some of the dumb people in Wisconsin (like the people beating up random people at the Wisconsin State fair). And every time people ask why I moved to Wisconsin from Indiana they ask me why I would do something like that. I mean come on…I’m from Corn Field USA (ie Indiana) and I still give it props.

TARYN IS SO BADASS AND I LOVE HER. *ahem*

…Also, I hate to say this, but the “alternate” joke, the one you didn’t use, really did seem much better. Not just funnier (which it was), but (in my silly opinion, anyway) more in keeping with the spirit of the fearlessly tasteless and hilarious sex jokes that are a part of this comic’s appeal (the other parts of course being great storytelling and fantastic art). Sorry, I’m not the best person to give concrit. I do love this comic to pieces and I loved the update.

Taryn may have just killed someone…
I know we’re supposed to ignore that because of the rule of funny, but come on, she just speared a bystander through the chest!

Now if a hero was fighting a villain and your dog, or your mom, or your lover or your best friend got speared by said hero you’d probably consider THEM to be the villain, not the cool formerly-dapper-now-amazingly-badass shadow guy.

Another thing, Nergil doesn’t actually seem to be that mean to people who don’t get in his way: he warned the kid not to pet Montaque and offered to spare Chase if he just gave him Monty (prior to the Wedding, afterwards he was less polite) even though CHASE GOT NERGIL WRONGFULLY INCARCERATED AND ON THE SEX OFFENDER LIST.

On another note, Montaque ate a child, it’s pretty obvious that he actually is a monster. He just happens to have humans that he likes.

  I resonate with some of what you’re saying. I’m pretty uncool with Taryn’s “accident.” I wonder what case law says about a civilian injuring a bystander in self defense?

    To be fair, what’s she supposed to do about it, stop fighting and let herself get eaten/speared/ripped apart? Turn herself in for accidentally killing someone?
    
    By that logic, everybody that has a name should be in prison or worse, and while that could probably be used, it would turn itself into rule of funny again.

  I try not to see people in black or white. Neither Nergil nor Taryn are the good guys or the bad guys to me. They are two people fighting against one another thanks to events that were put in motion many years ago. I just enjoy the fight.
  
  Also judging by her rather calm demeanor I would guess this is not the first time she has killed anyone. She has probably learned the craft of adventuring from her father and probably knows a few ways to deal with the occasional snag that comes up in that line of work. (Check your adventurer’s hand book, chapter 7 “What to do if you accidentally kill someone”)
  
  As a final thought, anyone who stays to watch something like that is assuming the risk that comes along with it.
